@Anonymous at 10:23 PM on July 4, 2012: 4th of July is a commemoration of the day the United States of America signed the Declaration of Independence, a document declaring Independence from England. We signed that document on July 4, 1776 and celebrate our independence from England every 4th of July. It is also know as Independence Day and is a federal holiday meaning that it is a holiday recognized by the United States of America government. I hope that this answers your question.
