Doctors Call Josie's Story a Fairytale

Josie Duggar now weighs in at 6 pounds, 9 ounces. That may not sound like a lot for a regular 5-month old infant, but considering what Josie has gone through, it's nothing short of a miracle. She entered the world at 25 weeks gestation, weighing just 1 pound, 6 ounces, and her progress since December has been impressive. In a recent interview, Dr. Arrington, co-director of the NICU at Arkansas Childrens' Hospital, told People Magazine that "[Josie's] eyes and brain appear perfectly normal. She escaped lung injury on the ventilator. Without her current issues, her story's a fairytale." When she gains more weight, Josie will have to undergo a surgery to fix 3 hernias, and doctors predict that they will need to reattach some of her organs.
How much did you, or your children, weight at birth?

  1. It is good to hear the doctors talk about her being a fairy tale. There are so many fairy tales alive today. I am always thankful to God for my fairy tale who was born at 3 lbs. 1 oz. --- She totally made the doctors have to rethink things.

  5. So glad to know that she is doing so well. What a blessing from God. Our twins (now 9) were born at 3 lb 15 oz and 4 lb 9 oz were so tiny to us so I can't imagine how tiny baby Josie was.

  7. I'm still very concerned about Josie's health, both short and long term.

Her doctor does not impress me much, he's made some rather careless statements.

I hope Josie is going to be be a fairytale story, but I think it's far too early to claim she is out of the woods.

  10. Josie's story is not a "fairytale"-it is the gracious hand of God and a miracle that this baby has escaped the many complications of such extreme prematurity.

  11. I completely agree. Josie's story is the gracious hand of God. The word fairytale was used in a quote by Josie's doctor.

  13. My son was a preemie also. He was born by emergency c-section at 29 weeks due to placental abruption. Just less than 2 weeks before that I almost lost my husband due to a medical emergency. Our son was 2 LBS 15 OZ at birth and 6 LBS even when he came home 1 week before his duedate. He will be 6 years-old on Aug 10th and going into first grade in a private Christian school. He spent 68 days at Children's Hospital in Seattle.
